We visit three projects in the valley aimed at assisting and developing the youth through arts and culture, giving them an opportunity to escape these harsh realities and find meaning, purpose and opportunities in life.
Started in 1986, James House serves abandoned, abused and neglected children and youth; young people and families made vulnerable through HIV / AIDS, unsupported and abused mothers, and young people in trouble with the law.
Hear and see the miracle stories that have been created through the dedicated work of James House, the home that love built.
Jikeleza Dance Company has approximately 150 children between the ages of 6 and 18 years old enrolled in the programme, and the children receive daily classes in classical ballet, contemporary, street, African and Spanish Dance. Hout Bay Music Project teaches music, performance and theory to over 60 children. The trust offers string teaching and marimba, voice, dance and drumming lessons. The trust provides an instrument and a teacher, and children then have the opportunity to join the orchestra, string ensemble or African music program. The trust provides many performance opportunities at government and corporate functions, and concerts. In this way the children involved develop self-con.dence, life-skills and performance skills, but most of all have fun.
