University of Washington Group

Uthando hosted a group of study abroad students from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA led by their Professor from the Department of Law, Societies and Justice. The group has been based at the University of Cape Town for several weeks. The group is in South Africa to learn about local criminal justice issues and especially focused on at-risk youth projects. Uthando introduced the group to dynamic and inspiring change-makers (and their teams) in this field in their respective communities, namely Sihle from Quirky30, Johan from Macassar Pottery, Mario from Greater Commission United and ending off the day with some fun at The Amy Foundation. Uthando received this fantastic note from Professor Steve Herbert : “More importantly, much thanks for such a terrific tour.  When Katherine and I polled our students about their favorite experience in Cape Town, your tour was at the top of every list, alongside the trip to the prison.  It made plain how impactful it can be to have direct encounters with people. “
