Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Roethenbach in Bavaria HUGE success towards helping Masibulele Educare

Class 10a from Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Roethenbach in Bavaria, Germany, raised 1100€ (R18 079.71) to help at #LetsBuildMasibulele. Inspired by their English teacher Simone Suenkel, who got to know Uthando in 2016 when she visited South Africa, the class organized a bazaar  ”READ FOR SOUTH AFRICA“ with a second hand book sale. The students created bookmarks, painted pictures and sold South African wine at their summer party at school, where guests also generously donated towards construction of the new early childhood development centre,

University of Washington Group

Uthando hosted a group of study abroad students from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA led by their Professor from the Department of Law, Societies and Justice. The group has been based at the University of Cape Town for several weeks. The group is in South Africa to learn about local criminal justice issues and especially focused on at-risk youth projects. An emotional moment of gratitude for Mahatma Gandhi

Truly emotional and magic moments happen frequently during Uthando tours. Whilst visiting the Moya we Khaya Garden in Khayelitsha, Mama Christina Kaba produced her passbook (which she was forced to carry during the apartheid years) to show Arun Gandhi. During the exchange Mama Kaba thanked Arun Gandhi on behalf of his grandfather, Mahatma Gandhi, for his tireless efforts to eradicate racial discrimination and hatred both in South Africa and around the world. Millions of black South Africans were imprisoned for “tresspassing”

Supporting the Kronendal Music Academy (KMA) trip to the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival

Uthando was pleased to make a contribution towards the Kronendal Music Academy (KMA) trip for their young students to attend the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival to be held in Scotland in July 2018. Not only will the trip be a life changing experience for the students, but the visibility of the KMA on the international stage will certainly assist in future fundraising and collaboration efforts.

The British couple returned to Cape Town and visited the completed centre in March 2018 together with Uthando. The children at the centre presented Phil and Margo with a thank you poster they had made
