Spinach King was established in 2011 by Lufefe Nomjana to promote the consumption of spinach by producing innovative spinach products. As spinach contains all six major classes of nutrients and it is one of the most highly affordable and easy to grow vegetables.
With forty Rands capital and the help of his neighbor who allowed him to use her oven in the evenings, Lufefe started baking three loaves of spinach bread per night. He would go around the community during the day to sell the spinach bread door to door.
Production and clientele grew, and Spinach King evolved to include quality and tasty meals using organic ingredients. The menu at Lufefe’s innovative ‘fresh food outlet’ is varied. Customers enjoy vegetarian burgers (gluten-free spinach filled patties), spinach smoothies (customer-blended on a bicycle to encourage exercise). The egg and spinach wraps and a variety of organic breakfast and lunch meals are popular made-to-order items.
