Uthando is incredibly excited to help transform communities through sport. These cement tables are a first in South Africa.
The first table was installed at Welcome Primary School in Heideveld on 26 June 2017 and it has been a HUGE success, we received the following email from the principal of the school :
“Thank you so much for affording our school the opportunity of having a permanent table tennis structure at the school.
It is so beautiful to see the learners milling around whilst others are playing.
The children have formed their own pairs and fall in when the other is out. The sports coaches are monitoring the whole process and everyone having so much fun.
The learners are really enjoying playing on it during interval and after school. Thanks so much for this valuable gift which is already enhancing the holistic educational experience at Welcome Primary School.

The children sign out for the bats and balls at the office and must return them when done. Also, the table is being featured as part of the school physical education programme which is very exciting.
This is a REMARKABLY exciting initiative. Tour operators, hotels, clients / travellers, conferences and events organizers, incentive groups….this an amazing opportunity to sponsor tables at schools, community projects and other centres with endless possibilities for engagement, participation between locals and sponsors / visitors while bringing “concrete” benefits to locals.
A 1,2 ton table costs R34 377.62 fully manufactured, delivered and installed (by a civil engineer).
(if the table top is delivered more than 15km from the factory, an extra R162.00 per km
A set of 4 bats and 8 balls costs R350.00 from Sportmans Warehouse.
The table as an art installation : painting of the table totally transforms the table into an art installation. Juma Mkwela from Township Art Tours does an amazing job at painting the tables together with the children / people at the respective projects. The cost of painting the table is R2500.00 and is worth every cent.
NOTE : This might seem like a lot of money but the table is installed in several stages with site visits by the cement company and civil engineer, then several installation stages of the actual table itself with the production of the foundation, then base and finally delivery of the table top by a truck with a crane to lower it onto the table. (see attached photos).
Please also note that Uthando is not making 1 cent out of this initiative, we just want to see as many tables installed at as many deserving schools as possible.
