Ulwazi Educare Centre

Ulwazi Educare Centre is a registered as a Nonprofit Organization focusing on Early Childhood Development, situated on land owned by the NPO in an area called Delft in the eastern neighbourhoods of Cape Town.  Patiswa Patience Bangani is the founder of the organization and principal of the school. Ulwazi Educare centre opened in 1998 with the stated intention, “to protect the children from child abuse, drugs and to fight poverty. We are looking after the children whose mothers are working and leave them with unemployed fathers, neighbours, immediate family members or alone, we specialize in caring for children from the age of 2 years to 6 years.”

In 2010 funds were raised to build a school from mostly used shipping containers. This first step led to what is now a school for 120 children, without much further investment since then. Uthando is currently working with Ikamva Labantu and Natural Building Collective to have plans drawn and money raised to build a good quality decent building for Ulwazi Educare replacing the current shipping containers. The goal is to raise R1.3 million (approx US$ 100 000.00) and complete construction by the end of 2019.
