Macassar Pottery is the flagship of an extensive community transformation process in Macassar, Cape Town. Within the business, they upskill, employ, and incubate un-schooled youths who, incidentally, make up 50% of all young people in South Africa. Macassar Pottery offers learnerships and on-the-job training to help young people become employable, productive citizens.
With the ceramics, creative tourist, and team-building experiences, the program helps their supporters discover beauty in unexpected and even unlikely places. National reconciliation and restitution are big concepts. Macassar Pottery breaks it down to the marketing and selling of quality products from a marginalized community. A moment of connection and integration forged with each product sale; in the end, making a new kind of society possible.
