fun at The Amy Foundation

Meadowbrook School of Weston, Boston, USA

Uthando had an absolutely wonderful day of engagement, learning and fun with a group of learners, teachers and parents from Meadowbrook School of Weston, Boston, USA. The group wanted to learn about how South Africans are actively trying to make their country a better place to live – the methods that the people have discovered that work, as well as the ones that don’t, and how to rise to the challenges and continue to grow. They were also very interested in connecting with locals on the ground, meeting new friends, and learning through the process.
Uthando received this wonderful feedback from Pete Johannsen, a teacher from the school :
“I wanted to reach out and let you know how much we appreciated everything you did to make the day so amazing for the group. The way you constructed the experience was really perfect. Sihle’s story is so compelling, as he is himself and the message he wants to bring to the groups who visit. He was so engaging – there wasn’t another speaker we had the pleasure of meeting who was able to hold every participant’s attention in the way he was, and I know that many of the group were furiously scribbling down notes on his life philosophies. The experience at the Amy Foundation was really well structured – it was great to be able to see so many elements of the programs they run there, and the performance at the end was exciting. It was so wonderful to have the variety of the whistle painting activity and the drum jam at Macassar Pottery. The lunch was really delicious, the chef’s story amazing, and, of course, Andisiwe’s choir was such a great additional surprise. We were really impressed at SEED with not only with their reconstruction efforts, but also with the presentation skills of the members of the program. And finally, your explanations of where we were going, of South Africa’s history, and your own personal experiences really helped people to understand the context of what we were seeing and had seen throughout our trip.”
