The Pebbles Project is a non-profit organization currently supporting over 1400 children between the ages of 0 – 18, as well as their families, in the farming communities of South Africa’s Western Cape Province in Somerset West, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington, Citrusdal as well as the Hemel-en-Aarde region close to Hermanus. Many of the beneficiaries are children of wine farm workers who live on farms in often challenging circumstances. Alcohol abuse, poverty, lack of access to education, health, and other essential services all contribute to the reason why the Pebbles Project (Pebbles) exists.
Pebbles follows a five-pillar approach: education, health, nutrition, community development, and protection (social work) programs. The project was designed to address the challenging circumstances in which the children live and make a significant, lasting difference. The focus is, and always will be, education (including special educational needs support). The Pebble Project subscribes to the belief that meaningful, sustainable change is holistic, taking into consideration all the various factors that can impact the child’s ability to develop and prosper.
