Greenpop

Greenpop is a non-profit organization on a mission to (re)connect people with the planet by planting trees through urban greening and reforestation projects. The organization spreads environmental awareness and activates people via green festivals and workshops across Southern Africa. The urban-greening initiative empowers local communities to improve their ecological and social landscapes by using tree planting as a tool for active citizenship, environmental stewardship, and learning. The program addresses and enhances the lack of green spaces in underprivileged neighborhoods, the lack of education on environmental issues and self-sustainability, and the lack of job opportunities in the environmental arena. Once complete, the inspiring project-owners identified an ongoing need for such an organization that connects people to the planet and one another. And so, founded in 2010, Greenpop set out to plant 1000 trees in the under-greened townships of Cape Town, in one month.
