Isibane se Afrika – which translates to “The Light Of Africa” in isiXhosa, is a traditional African gospel choir based in Khayelitsha. With a vision to create a positive platform from which her community could express themselves, Andisiwe Mbuje founded the choir in her mother’s garage, in 2001. Using the choir as an instrument for change and a force for good within the community, Isibane se Afrika allows the youth of Khayelitsha to be a part of something fun, uplifting, and empowering. With a mission to raise funds for the planned Arts & Culture Hub in Khayelitsha, Isibane se Afrika spreads its unique messages of love, compassion, and humanity through neighborhood showcase performances. Through the power of song and collaborative voice, the choir has developed an inspiring reputation for performing at corporate events, weddings, festivals, and celebrations. They have traveled to Poland, where they performed at the same glamorous gala event as the well-known electronic band, Morcheeba, an incredible achievement for a group of singers from Khayelitsha.
